Being a Good Citizen...
Every so often there comes a time when you wonder if you are teaching the right things to your children. You know those times when you watch them play and see them interact with the neighbors or their friends and you see one of the other kids do something mean or rude and you wonder if that is what your kid does when you're not looking. Monday night was family night and I had the duty of teaching the lesson. Those of you that know me, know that I am deeply patriotic and love the founding fathers and all that this country should stand for: Freedom, Life, Liberty & the Pursuit of Happiness. As it was still the month of July and we had spent several hours waiting for the fireworks, etc. we had decided to give a lesson on being a good citizen. Tough subject to teach an 8 year old, let alone an almost 3 year old. As we talked we listed things that made good citizens: taking care of your home & city, following the laws, etc. So as I tried to involve little Zoe in the conversation about following the law I asked her, "Zoe what should you do if you see someone being naughty and stealing or breaking something that is not theirs?"
I am proud to say that with no hesitation at all and with the most sincere voice she has, she replied: "You spank 'em"
After I wiped the laughing tears away from my eyes and had a stern look of her mother in disapproval, I knew then that we were teaching her all the correct things she needs to know. So whoever you may be-be warned that if you are caught being 'naughty' by my little Zoe-you will be swiftly spanked!!
