Google Search for "The Great Pumpkin": "According to Linus, on Halloween night, the Great Pumpkin rises out of the pumpkin patch he deems the most "sincere". The Great Pumpkin then flies through the air to deliver toys to all the good little children in the world. Apparently, one can cause the Great Pumpkin to pass him or her by merely saying "IF he comes", as opposed to "WHEN he comes". This could mean that the Great Pumpkin is likely to pass by anyone who doubts his existence." (Wikipedia.org, 2008)
Do you remember the Halloween Favorite? The classic story of a poor little boy, sitting in the pumpkin patch with his tattered blue blanket. Watching and waiting for the Great Pumpkin to come. I had the same memory as this past weekend we took a family trip to Santiquin to the Red Barn. We took a 'hayride' pulled by a tractor down a dirt lane. Yvette & I watched as the girls eyes looked around in delight at all the orchard trees and the fields, then as we rounded the corner and saw the giant pumpkin patch you could feel their excitement. It was contagious and fun. A great afternoon to spend with one another and an excellent memory for them to have. Here's to the Great Pumpkin-
The Great Pumpkin-
The brisk autumn breeze whispers past, Creeping and crawling along the dirt path.
The cool air strolls down the fading patch, Rustling the leaves and tender winding vines.
Bright orange shapes cover the damp ground, Tall and skinny, short and fat, big and little waiting to be found.
The night is approaching and covering the sky, As the sun climbs into bed and says its goodbyes.
The children are quiet and still, Wondering if this is the year.
They crouch and they hide, Excitement and unrest as they wait for the great sight.
Watching and waiting for until the moment is just right, Tonight is the night.
A howl in the night as darkness creeps in, Now the moon is just right.
In the far corner-there something is creeping, The children all shiver with fright.
Gliding and winding it makes it way, Over the slope and down the small path.
Eyes wide with joy and hands clenched so tight, Out in the middle it rises so high.
The giant round shape looming and searching, For those that believe and are “sincere”.
Tonight is the night all Halloween dreams come true, The Great Pumpkin is here.
The sight so grand and the sighting for sure, All Hallows Eve is now complete.
